Getting Spooked by Repetitive Interview Questions
Always monitor the signs of a company’s culture during an interview.
My business professor made it clear early on, “You’ll likely do many, many job interviews in your career.” Yet I was still surprised — not only by how many interviews I ended up doing — but by how varied those experiences were.
About 80% of my job interviews went well and according to plan. My interviewers were respectful and friendly. Even when I didn’t get the job offer, I still felt good about the experience overall.
Yet in about one in five interviews, something always went wrong. I left scratching my head asking, “What just happened?” Part of me always wonders if this is emblematic of the business and finance world, where egos abound, and companies are in varying states of growth and decay. Or perhaps I was just unprepared for the interview process.
The kingkiller worst interview was perhaps the most informative of all the ones I dealt with. Here’s what happened.
I landed a job interview here in Tampa with Bisk, a company that manages the portals for many online and in-person degree programs. It was more than a decade ago, and perhaps things have changed in the intervening years, but during this interview, I was alarmed beyond measure.
