I don’t have expertise on a long list of topics.

Candidly, I’ve been a fool at so many of life’s junctions and turned left when I should have turned right.

But I know content creation. I’ve been writing for 8 years now, and built followings and relationships with readers on several platforms, without click-baiting or engaging other dark arts.

I’ll tell you how to come up with ideas and I’ll be very specific. Here are seven quick ways.

1. Alter the perspective

Write a self-improvement article from an animal’s POV, your 12-year-old self, or as someone who is terrible at self-improvement.

Rather than offer a commentary on an unusual trend, offer an unusual commentary on a common trend. Just a tweak.

Steal my 80–20 Rule of Creativity. A new idea should be 80% familiar and 20% new. Moreover — don’t try too hard to be the most creative person ever. That’s how bad content happens.

2. Put on a podcast and ignore it
