The way to alleviate this in the future would be to mix in more of the good parts of a trip, and include some self-deprecating humor. No country is perfect but just taking a more balanced approach helps with written humor as the context is lost versus delivering jokes in person. I'm sure you feel attacked by the humor police right now, and I've been on the receiving end of it myself and understand, but I do hope you hear out some of this feedback earnestly.
